Good to watch a yellow-browed Warbler in the garden in Askernish today, but the real surprise was a Blue Tit.

Went for a walk down the Askernish road to the machair this evening when the rain stopped.
I was surprised and delighted to see a Hummingbird Hawk-moth feeding on Knapweed.

Bumblebees

Saw my first bumblebees of the year today. Two B.lucorum, white tails and a Heath bumblebee B.jonellus. They had found my spring flowering heather, there is very little else available.

There has been a dead Sperm Whale on the beach Peighinn nan Aoireann for the last couple of days.
An Iceland Gull and a couple of Glaucous gulls also present some of the time.

Found on the strand line just North of Orasay Island South Uist, a Striped Dolphin, Stenella coeruleoalba (or as Mary Harman would have had it Euphrosyne's Dolphin). Shame, it was only a young one at 162cm.

Askernish. A female blackcap was feeding on fallen crab apples in the garden today and for the third successive evening a short-eared owl seen out hunting.
