Hugh Insley has forwarded some remarkable information about a colour-ringed Whimbrel that was photographed at Nunton by Peter Stronach on 6th May.

Tómas Grétar Gunnarsson, Forstöðumaður/Director, Háskóli Íslands/University of Iceland Rannsóknasetur Háskóla Íslands á Suðurlandi/ South Iceland Research Centre replied to Hugh yesterday: 'just found your Whimbrel. It is nesting ca 6 km from its previous breeding place. To my knowledge this is the first record of breeding dispersal out of a study site which usually are only some tens of ha's.'
