vatersay and barra

Post by Bruce » 20 Sep 2015, 17:53

An adult ring-billed gull has been present on Vatersay since 15th September. On 16th a white-winged gull, most probably a glaucous, was also seen here briefly. Meanwhile on Barra my first yellow-browed warbler of the autumn turned up at Eoligarry on 17th and was followed by singles at Garrygall and Creachan on 18th. Also on 18th single pied fly, reed warbler and garden warbler at various sites around the island. 2 tree sparrows are visiting feeders around Brevig and appear to have been in the area since late August.
Some cetacean news: On 17th 4 orca passed Brevig heading north during the late afternoon. The group appeared to comprise 3 adults and 1 young. Also several common dolphins and a porpoise offshore at the same time.
