American Wigeon and Glaucous Gulls on North Uist

A returning ♂ American Wigeon from last winter has reappeared recently on the loch opposite Aileodair (on travelling from Lochmaddy the loch on the left hand side of the road before the turning to Lochportain). This was first seen by Bill Allan. There have been at least a couple of Glaucous Gulls around in the last week. Photo of one attached - quite a weak looking bill - presumably a ♀.

Some other North Uist news in the last week: a late Little Stint at Loch Paible, a Chiffchaff at Clachan-a-Luib on Saturday while the next day Jamie saw two Lapland Buntings and some 20 Snow Buntings on the machair near Grenitote. Also of note was a concentration of at least 215 Cormorants on the small island of Groatay near Cheese Bay today. I can't recall any winter counts approaching this number in recent years.
