Barra

Post by Bruce » 08 Feb 2016, 19:52

I was surprised to find a chiffchaff in a small clump of brambles at Scallary today. This is my first on the island since 22nd November. Also today 4 slavonian grebes and 2 greenshank from the Ardmhor ferry terminal, 2 woodcock at Creachen and 30 great northern divers off of Leinis. The wintering whimbrel is still in the Brevig area. On 5th there were 2 juvenile glaucous gulls on the west beach at Vatersay. Also on the 5th I found the remains of a long dead short-eared owl near Vatersay township; perhaps not surprising given this winter's succession of storms.
