red-necked grebe

Post by Bruce » 10 Mar 2016, 18:51

There was a red-necked grebe off of the east beach on Vatersay this morning. This is probably the same bird I glimpsed at long range out in the bay a few days ago. There was also a slavonian grebe near the Vatersay causeway today.
There's been a juvenile and a second winter glaucous gull hanging around on the west side of Barra recently. The second winter bird was on the beach at Craigston this morning. My first linnet of the year was at Brevig.
It looks as though the American herring gull has moved on, with no sign over the past 3 days.
