Redwing at Cradhlastadh, Uig

Post by JohnB1955 » 05 May 2016, 19:32

Apologies for the delay. This redwing was there most of the week April 17-24 when we stayed. Not sure if it was a passage bird, feeding but no sign of nesting material. Maybe somebody else can identify the race.
Tony may remember us, met at L.Stiapabhat on Tues 19th, my wife Christine was brought up in Uig and he told us he was originally a Weegie

A nice photo John. Almost certainly a passage bird - two pairs bred in the early 1970s and there are several other probable records. Most of the Redwings that pass through here in spring and autumn are Icelandic birds as this one certainly was (much more heavily streaked on underparts than nominate race).
