Moths - Askernish - 4th June June 2016

Post by YvonneB » 05 Jun 2016, 23:14

Another excellent mothing night with 34 species recorded. The number of the migrant micro moth Plutella xylostella (Diamond-back Moth) increased to 117 - I thought this was pretty amazing but heard that in Skye someone there had 760 in their trap this morning :o

Other highlights were: The Shark, Drinker, Narrow-winged Pugs, Ruby tigers and 5 Poplar Hawk-moths.

I believe that this is the northern buff form of White Ermine, and see http://ukmoths.org.uk/species/spilosoma ... ab-godarti

Nice images Yvonne. Not surprised it took a while to sort the Ermine, the striated form is quite unusual: Spilosoma lubricipeda ab. godarti.
