Colour-ringed Common Tern

Post by MisterT » 29 Jun 2016, 20:08

On a recent trip to Lewis, I found this colour ringed Common Tern in Stornoway harbour sporting a yellow darvic ring with the letters PHV. I finally tracked the bird down as being part of the Dublin Bay Birds project with this individual being ringed on the 7th September 2015 at Sandymount Strand, Dublin.

The aim of the colour-ringing there is primarily focused around the birds breeding ecology at a colony in Dublin Port, but there is an aggregation of post-breeding terns (Common, Arctic, Roseate, Sandwich and the occasional Black Tern) of about 3,000 birds in late August and early September each year, of which this bird was one.
