Askernish Ringing - January 2012

Post by YvonneB » 25 Mar 2012, 14:52

Birds ringed in Askernish during January 2012

We had a slow start to the year as we didn't return home to Uist until 13th January, we'd spent the winter running the Strait of Gibraltar Bird Observatory.

New birds

40 Starling
1 House Sparrow
11 Greenfinch

Total = 52 of 3 species

Retraps

1 Robin
2 Song Thrush
2 Starling
390 House Sparrows*
14 Greenfinch

Total = 408 of 5 species

The re-trap Robin and some of the re-trapped Greenfinches were originally ringed as new birds in the Autumn of 2010

* The vast majority of the House Sparrow "retraps" were re-sightings (mainly by Bill next door, thanks Bill!) of our colour-ringed birds.
