Spider identification help

Post by YvonneB » 18 May 2012, 16:28

Hi, i found this spider on a fence this morning when i was doing my Breeding Bird Survey transect out by Loch Bee - any clues as to the species? It seemed to have a "nest" in some sheep's wool that was wrapped around the barbed wire.

Thanks in advance :)

Is it Meta Segmentata? Not that I'm an expert.

Hi Paul

Thanks, i'm not at all an expert either - i don't even like spiders very much! :o

After doing a bit of searching around, I've been looking at Larinioides cornutus which seems like it may be a good match - see this photo which is from the Wild About Britain website:-
